The short answer is yes, always, and the standard is at least 15 - 25% of the total fare cost which is consistent with the general tipping practices and rule of thumb in the car service industry.
(b) Drivers like servers, valets, the barista in your favorite coffee shop, are part of the service economy and rely on gratuity. Drivers also have many work-related expenses not factored into the rate that clients pay, such as car maintenance, cleaning fees, uniform costs, fuel for “dead miles" which is the distance your driver travels at their own expense from their last drop-off location, or from their home to pick you up. Drivers also pay their own tolls after they drop you off or on the way to pick you up. The driver of private car service as SUPER RIDES INC is expected to perform at a high level, so tipping them is the perfect way to show your appreciation.
(c) Drivers are professionals who spend considerable time accommodating their clients and ensuring that their ride goes as smoothly as possible, that encompasses everything from being on time, carrying your suitcases, opening the door for you, loading and unloading your items, assisting you with your seatbelt and seat position, adjusting the air conditioning or the radio’s volume and genre to your preferences, knowing a shortcut during rush hour— the list goes on and on and on.
(d) During the holiday season, from November 15 thru December 31 all trips will be quoted with a 18% driver gratuity. You may add more after the completion of your trip if you wish.
SECTION 34 - WHAT TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION WHEN TIPPING YOUR DRIVER.
Before calculating the final tip amount, think about this; did you travel late at night or early in the morning? Were you alone or with family and children? Were you traveling with a large group? If so, consider tipping more than 20%. The duration of the journey will also define the tip amount. A higher tip of 25% is appropriate if you’re taking a long trip. Also, take into consideration the time of service. Did your driver have to wait for you past midnight at the airport? Did the driver start their day at 3:00 AM to drive you safely and comfortably to your destination by 6:00 AM? Did your driver go above and beyond to help you settle into the vehicle and check in with you along the way to make sure you were comfortable? Then that’s certainly worth a good tip.
